Thoughts on the 1 out of 4 women get raped in their lifetime statistic?
dontneedfeminism:It’s bull shit.sheabutterwitchcraft-nigga:
Not only is it from a study done in 1994, but 73% of the women they labeled as “rape victims” didn’t believe they had been raped, and about 40% of them went on to date their “rapist” after the fact.
So, if we don’t count the 73%, that brings the number down to 1 in 16. Still not great, but again, it’s from 20 years ago. Now lets factor in that, since 1994, rape has gone down by 80%.
That means that at the MOST, the rape rate of women is 1 in 80, which comes out to 1,875,000 college-aged women who have been raped (in the US).
Even if you restrict this to being just women who are 18-25 (about college age), that is *still* not 1 in 4, as there were approximately 20+ million women between the ages of 18 and 25 in 2000.
So, simply as a matter of fact, the 1 in 4 statistic is a lie. Anyone who uses it is simply spreading rape hysteria and propaganda.
http://www.statisticbrain.com/rape-statistics/ sure keep saying saying that but this is from the year 2013 with the most recent percentages of rape that happened in the year 2013

Actually you’re wrong. If you look under the college rape section you will see the following:
“The following is from a study of 6,000 college students on 32 college campuses nationwide in 1987”
“The following is from a CDC study of 5,000 women on 138 college campuses in 1995”
The section labelled “rape statistics” is unsourced, but it says that 89,000 rape are reported each year.
So lets see what it takes to get to “1 in 4”.
Lets go with 156 million women (about half the US population), and divide that by 4. That gives us 39 million.
Now lets divide that by the rape rate of 89,000. That comes out to approximately 438. That means, at a rate of 89,000 rapes a year, it would take 438 years worth of rapes to get “1 in 4”.
But then there’s that “60% of rapes are never reported” statistic. So lets factor that in.
Multiply the 89,000 by 2.5 (1/.4 = 2.5) and we get 225,000.
Now lets divide the 39 million by that again. We get 173.
So, even factoring in the 60% unreported rape, it would still take nearly 200 years worth of rapes to get to “1 in 4”.
But then there’s that “95% of college rapes are never reported to authorities” statistic, so lets do more math.
Multiply 89,000 by 20, and you get 1.78 million. Now divide 39 million by that and you get 22.
That’s a much more reasonable number. However, I have never once seen the 95% unreported statistic before, and since it is completely unsourced, I’m skeptical as to its legitimacy.
Even more unnerving, is the fact that Mary Koss was involved in the report you linked. In another report done by Mary Koss, she wrote that “It is inappropriate to consider as a rape victim a man who engages in unwanted sexual intercourse with a woman.”
So do keep in mind that one of the sources for your link, is a very blatant rape apologist as well as a Feminist, giving your sources several forms of inherent bias.
Feel free to try again another time.
