Thoughts on Doctor Who: “Death In Heaven”

Spoilers. Avoid if you haven't seen it and want to.

It's be trivial to resurrect *all* of the characters who died in that period. They could say that their personalities were uploaded, and that when Missy was zapped, she was uploaded (which she was counting on), and the same could be said for Osgood and Danny.

Now on a practical level, what you have is a gigantic database connected to a virtual reality, so that the personalities can act and agree to have emotions deleted (why? why not delete them without consent? That only makes sense from a magical perspective).

OK, at the end the place was 'crashing' - but it's entirely possible that that just meant that the VR was crashing and the database was intact, with the characters in their 'last saved format'.

UNIT finds that database, can't really understand it, and manages to extract however many characters you want .. and once they have them, it's possible to keep them going in a virtual reality (have them appear as holograms ) or find a body to put them into.

The cyberman body bit made no sense at all. There's no reason I can think of for the original bodies to matter. IF personalities can be uploaded (I think they can't) THEN the source does not need to be maintained.

When you scan a novel into a pdf file, does the pdf file need the novel to be preserved to continue to exist?

Only if you have 'magical thinking'. In a pure fantasy novel, fine, it's all necromancy, of course you need a corpse, but Dr Who could at least use elements of science fiction that are really, *really* old, and that have addressed this very problem.

See Kiln People as an example, or the books of "The Culture". I think Arthur C. Clarke was writing about this idea in the 1960s, but I'd have to check.

Now, i do not think personalities can be uploaded because in going from analog to digital, you have losses. As such, at best, you have someone who is sort of similar, which is not 'you' any more than a brother or a daughter is.

But Dr Who can make up the rules as it likes, and if digital copying is allowed, but only with extreme limits, then why don't the Time Lords use it themselves? Why bother regenerating? You just upload, get a body grown as in the BSG reboot, download, and even have many copies.

So you'd need a reason within the story to stop them doing it. I think the sampling idea would be the logical one except that it would interfere with the flow of this story.

I have to say I hated this story except for parts - but loved the characters. Plotwise, I felt very disconnected; the sillier parts kept throwing me out of it. I was also disappointed because it would have been interesting if Missy had deliberately set up the moral conflict to include "you can allow a wipe of the database" - and kill these people you love - or you can allow it to continue but it will require my freedom or self-destruct". Use it as a hostage.

When I figured out Missy was the Master (and let's face it, most people had figured out long ago), I did remember Kate Orman asking (maybe 27 years ago) why the Doctor couldn't regenerate as a female. So I'm wondering if that's on the books. I have to admit I'll disconnect at that point, but who knows? Perhaps it will then become even more popular. We'll see.

" in support of ending sexual violence against women."

How will crossdressing accomplish this task, and why only against women*? Will women be doing anything to help male victims? Haha, only kidding, of course they won't. Feminism is HeForShe, never the other way around.

" a hope for a future where sexual violence will no longer exist in society."

Why not hope for a future where violence will no longer exist in society? Because that's insane. Because limiting such things through laws and police is the best solution we have - and it's worked pretty well. Violence is far lower, sexual and otherwise, than it used to be.

Crossdressing has nothing to do with it, and is instead propaganda claiming that women are the only victims, men the perpetrators of all evil, and that women need men to protect them and can't do things for themselves - ironically in direct contradiction to the feminist mantra that "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle".

"It takes a strong man to be a partner and ally to those who are the victims to sexual violence"

Who are invariably female, by their understanding. It's interesting that it's not
""It takes a strong person to be a partner and ally to those who are the victims to sexual violence"

because of course, if you have a vagina, you can forget about it; it's none of your concern. Let the men do all the work.

"(It takes) even a stronger one who has the courage and self-respect to call other men on their sexist and disrespectful behavior and intervene in potentially dangerous situations"

Firstly, again it's emphasised that only men have to do this, secondly it's painted as if only men were sexist (and that sexual violence has to do with sexism, when it's mostly opportunism by the amoral elements of society) and thirdly RESPECT HAS TO BE EARNED.

You do no merit respect automatically because you have a vagina any more than if you have a penis.
If feminism was an egalitarian movement, this would be a no-brainer. The fact it's never considered is further proof that feminism is a deeply sexist movement.

"Real men ask permission"

Ah, the no true Scotsman fallacy, it must have been a billionth of a second since a feminist used that one last. Listen, whether men ask permission or not, they are still real men. They might be bad men or good men, depending on your understanding of morality BUT THEY ARE ALL REAL MEN.

And you don't need to verbalise with women any more than you do with men. If a woman touches up a man, and then man touches up the woman, and they have intercourse, by the Feminist PoV, he just RAPED her, because he didn't "ask permission".

Most people are completely happy with having sex without chatting throughout the process, and continually asking if you can continue is the biggest mood-killer i can imagine. Ok, next to my partner being Lena Dunham.

Feminists look at a couple who have been married for twenty years and happily enjoy each others bodies and decide "I MUST POLICE THEM".

He must be evaluated to see if he continually verbalises; she is a childlike waif who is incapable of saying "stop" when she needs to.

He, of course, is always ready and wanting for sex, so she never needs to ask him by their rules.
"I think that many men and every man on this campus is all ready to give this much pain to make sure that women can have equal rights as men and enjoy this campus," Pashtun said.

Well, job done then. Name one right men have in the West that women don't.

Just one. Take your time.

Would you like to phone a friend?

Let's swap it. Imagine if Feminism WAS an egalitarian movement. One that cared to make sure women and men were treated equally. Yes, that is quite difficult, can i recommend a Bex and  a lie-down afterwards - but just for a moment, imagine they actually walked the walk and not just talked the talk.

What would the women wear?

Combat boots.

Women cannot be conscripted in the West. In the United States, the difference is so substantial that a man does not even have suffrage unless he agrees to conscription. It's called Selective Service.

Now, count up all the Feminist organisations that want SS applied without sex-based rules.

I'll give you a hint: it's the same number as unicorns running for President in Uruguay in October.

*Why is it only straight women, anyway, do feminists imagine lesbian rape is a contradiction in terms?
Well that's exactly the argument used by Mary P. Koss of the CDC to justify rape laws that granted immunity to most female rape crimes. And "The Vagina Monologues" explicitly claimed it was "Good Rape" when an adult woman molests a child. So yeah, Feminists erase it or even praise it when it's done by a woman.
And when a man does it - all men did it, and all must be blamed.

BAN THE MALE GAZE!

They blocked me from their website so I thought I'd post a response here.

"The male gaze, which refers to the lens through which mostly white, heterosexual men are viewing the world, is a lens of entitlement."

Oh, a racist start: I like it!

"It’s entitlement to all of the privileges awarded to gazers"

Are they like beholders? Do they bob about with eyes on the ends of stalks?

" entitlement to view women"

So the author believes men are NOT entitled to view women. You know what we call a group which is not entitled to view the other group?

Slaves.

Feminists imagine men should never be allowed to open their eyes and glance upon the divine visage that is the female form.

Or Feminist Wrath shall Smiteth them, oh yea!

" (and even to touch them!)"

And yet who made the law saying it was illegal for men to touch women? Men. So by this author's warped argument, men believe they are simultaneously entitled to touch women at any time, and are forbidden to touch them on pain of imprisonment.

Alternatively, this is total rubbish and the author is whipping up hysterical fear and hate against white heterosexual men. Let's call the Jews from now on and see where that takes us. Oh right, can't do that - because then this article would be banned as hatespeech.

"  and to discuss and exploit their bodies without consequence. "

Ah, so the author not only wants to ban men from looking in the direction of their superiors, but even from talking about them.

.

"Actions like walking up behind a stranger, grabbing her hips, and grinding up against her or staring at her suggestively from across the club while you run your hand down between your legs are examples of entitlement."

Ah, but you just said it only applied to "white, heterosexual men". Women do all those things, to other women, and to men, and gay men do it to each other.

So it seems to me that what you are saying is SEX IS BAD whenever the hated minority group does it.

"Thinking that if you buy a woman a drink, she owes you something"

Yep. Quid pro quo. She doesn't have to accept the drink. People don't buy other people drinks as an act of charity.

" that if you spend all night talking to her, she has to sleep with you "

Almost no sane person thinks that. However, they would feel cheated if sex wasn't on the table. If someone is spending all night speaking to you in that context - but they are not interested in you - then they deliberated wasted your time, knowing you wanted to get lucky, knowing you should have been talking to someone else. And this applies to straights, and gays, men and women. But you only object when Jews - I mean white straight men - stuff it, i'll says Jews - do it.

You hate Jews. You only object to Jews doing these things. You have no problem when your group does these things. You want to criminalise it when Jews do it. You want to whip up hatred towards Jews - and act offended when we point this out.

It can be as simple as when a white asks a jew not to leer, wink, or whistle when they walk by only to be told, “I didn’t do anything! You’re being crazy!”

Yep. A whistle is not the end of the world. It's an expression of opinion. If it's against the workplace rules, take that up with HR. But you are saying that no Jew may 'leer' at a white woman. Who can say when they are leering? Well, the white woman will just decide if she wants the jew to look at her, which as we all know is utterly disgusting and so she will always scream RAAAAPE when he glances at her. Because how dare he look, that's "eye-rape".

Not making that phrase up btw - Feminists invented it.

"saying “dance like no one is watching” is a bit hypocritical in a culture where we are told that there are always people watching."

You don't understand the meaning of the word hypocritical. When they say LIKE no-one's watching, it means IGNORE THEM. IT DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE LITERALLY NOT WATCHING, YOU IGNORAMUS.

"That they have a right to be watching – and judging."

Yup. That's what freedom means. They have the right to look around in a public places. They have a right to make opinions that you don't approve of.

You are a fascist piece of scum for wanting to deny them that right.

"No matter what a woman wears, it is assumed that those clothes are worn for the gazers."

Yep. Because people dress to communicate to the onlookers. Women do not dress up much, if at all, when isolated. Why would you think that they would? Humans are just as prone to sexual selection as birds, and like birds, we preen and dance for our mates.

You see reality as being a part of the conspiracy against you.

You are bloody INSANE.
